Perception

No less than five times this year I have been told I am a piece of shit because I like to eat. It may be best to not care what other people think, when you hear that enough, there is a good chance it is true. But is five or six times over in a year really very much? There are probably at least five or six people who think it’s cool to eat a lot

I hope and believe the vast majority of people simply don’t care one way or the other

Is that giving too much credit to people?

What is certain is that the people who think all this makes me a total douchebag are by far the most vocal

UNLEASH THE FURY: A Tribute to Pete

With a last name covering 40% of the alphabet, Peter Czerwinski goes by Pete C, Iron Pete and most often, Furious Pete

The man suffered, survived and overcame anorexia as a teenager.  In his 20s he became one of the few people in the world who truly like to eat

How much does he like to eat?  He likes to eat more than I do and proved it years ago.  He will continue to eat and eat lots more and long after everyone else has stopped. The biggest sign the guy likes to eat more than virtually anyone on the planet: More people hate him and hate him so strongly because he likes to eat than anyone else

He has won dozens of eating contests, eating an entire watermelon in 90 seconds, 72-ounce steak in six minutes and more than a couple 18″ or so pizzas in only a few minutes more.  He has eaten 10 pounds of hamburger in the US and Europe, appeared on ESPN. Youtube and his own online site can fill in more details. Chicken wings were most recent, five pounds in four minutes and six pounds in 10 minutes

There are also youtube videos of him lifting 600-pound barbells

Does a lot of charity work

An entire feature-length documentary has been made about his life

He’ll be traveling through Europe eating and promoting the movie next month

Recently become one of the very few people ever to be allowed to sit down and enjoy a large meal with Japan’s Kobayashi and managed so close to three-quarters of the amount Kobayashi ate

Hot Dog Contest I

After a long wait and a couple frustrations, finally found a place offering the opportunity to have a great meal with other people who like to eat. Simple and fairly standard: A bunch of people eat hot dogs and whoever likes them enough to not stop eating during the entire 10 minutes has a good chance to be invited back next month for another meal

What was awesome and unusual about this event is that it was actually open to anyone who wanted to take part. Most other similaar events will ban either everyone or mostly everyone who actually likes to eat

In the first group of guys and one lady, Mike proved he liked to eat more than anyone, eating a full 15 hot dogs in 10 minutes. The next group of guys all wanted to exceed that. I was able to keep eating until finishing twice that amount, being one of five who were invited back in three weeks. Ms America candidate was there doing what Ms America candidates do, both helping out and offering a pretty face. Very professional of her to hide her disgust well

Not completely full, a few hot dogs were still left on my plate, so I ate another one before someone took all the leftovers away.  Left without looking at the dessert menu, instead snacked on a bag of Fiber One cereal on the ride home

30 of them in 10 minutes

Fucking Proverbs

Don’t make lemonade, too much sugar, rot your teeth, give you diabetes. If life or anyone gives it to you, just eat the fucking thing, fruit is good for you

Yet Another Burger

(learned about this from an e-mail from a reader. For their efforts going to give them a $10 gift card to Target or Amazon.com. Similar offer is available to anyone who sends an e-mail that leads to a good meal — either a contest or a restaurant that can appreciate people who like to eat)

Told it was four pounds of beef. Plus all the cheese, and I would guess an entire head of lettuce, more than one tomato, onion and lots of pickles

That small burger and whole pickle on top were eaten first. The meat was extremely easy to eat in large amounts (for some reason that doesn’t sound too good). What was very different from the last burger, however, was that despite the moisture from the beef, the bun stayed intact. Each of the top and bottom halves of the roll was like an entire loaf of bread

Finished half in under 20 minutes and at that point no longer enjoyed eating very much and would have stopped. Except a crowd started gathering. When I am so often told I am not allowed to enjoy a meal with other people who like to eat, being able to enjoy the meal with people who are intrigued by such a hobby is a very good deal. Despite a full stomach, the crowd made each bite a good time

The last couple pounds of beef and cheese weren’t a problem. The second loaf of bread was starting to become more of a drudge than something to really appreciate, not sure if the cup of mayonnaise spread over it made it more or less palatable. Then there was the still most of the head of lettuce and slices of tomatoes, onions and pickles that had all fallen off. Finally finished the last bite in 38 minutes

To prove exactly how much food that was, had no interest in any ice cream or dessert. Even after waking up after a long ride home and 12 hour nap, still wasn’t very hungry. Having a large bowl of All Bran cereal seemed like a good choice

Almost as impressive as a restaurant that actually appreciates customers who like to eat was seeing a $180 drink on the menu
